Statement by H.E. Mr. Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu Permanent Representative of Turkey at the Virtual Celebration of the International Day of Nowruz

Feridun H.Sinirlioğlu 22.03.2021
Excellencies, Dear Friends,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I wish a happy Nevruz to you all. We are proud to have been organizing Nevruz celebration here at the UN since the declaration of 21st March as the “International Day of Nowruz” by the General Assembly in 2010 and recognition of Nevruz in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2009.
Last year unfortunately, the pandemic interrupted this joyful ceremony last year.
But today, we are virtually together to share the values enshrined in Nevruz: solidarity, mutual understanding and respect.
As we all know very well, Nevruz dates back to over 3000 years and celebrated by peoples from Central and South Asia to the Balkans. lt transcends national, religious, cultural and linguistic boundaries.
It stands as a symbol of peace in today’s World.
Nevruz marks the beginning of the New Year and represents the indispensable link between the human race and the nature. Therefore, it is very much related to the main motives behind the Sustainable Development Goals as well.
Distinguished guests,
Nevruz represents a clear message for peace, inclusiveness and human solidarity.
Last year has been a tough one. Now we see the light at the end of the tunnel with our scientists’ valuable afforts. Cold and dark days are coming to an end. We salute the spring and warm days. We hope to leave COVID-19 behind soon. Let’s hope to celebrate Nevruz in-person next year.
Nevruz mubarek olsun.
Nevruz marks the beginning of the New Year and represents the indispensable link between the human race and the nature.
Nevruz represents a clear message for peace, inclusiveness and human solidarity.
