Madame Moderator,

I would like to express our gratitude to the Permanent Representative of Kyrgyz Republic and the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for convening this high-level event.

It comes at a time of a profound and rapid change in the security situation throughout Asia and around the world.

Currently, millions of people are subject to risks and dangers of terrorism and organized crime. The inter-connectivity between terrorist cells and criminal organizations poses significant threats to peace and security. Therefore, our efforts to fight these challenges should have a strong regional and international dimension.

We believe that today’s discussions will be instrumental in this regard.

I would like to raise some points concerning the cooperation of my country with the SCO.

Turkey has deep-rooted and extensive relations with many of the member and observer states of the SCO.

We consider the SCO as an important organization in Asia.

Turkey, as a Dialogue Partner, would like to further consolidate its cooperation with the SCO on an institutional basis, in areas such as regional security, combating terrorism, narcotics trafficking and organized crime. Turkish Presidency of SCO Energy Club for 2017 was an important step towards deepening our relations with the SCO.

We are ready to play a more active role in achieving our common objectives.

Today’s meeting was very useful in highlighting the possible cooperation areas between the SCO and the UN, and we look forward to working together with you towards our common goals.

Thank you.
